Emergency Paediatric First Aid (1 day) Course

Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid (RQF) This regulated and nationally recognised qualification provides Learners with the opportunity to develop the basic skills and knowledge needed to deal with a range of emergency paediatric first aid situations which could arise when looking after children. During this 1 day course, Learners will develop the skills and knowledge needed to deal with a range of paediatric first aid situations, including: managing an unresponsive infant or child, CPR, defibrillation, choking, seizures, external bleeding, shock and more.

The Level 3 Paediatric First Aid course provides theoretical and practical training in First Aid techniques that are specific to infants aged 0 to 1, and children aged from 1 year old to the onset of puberty. Candidates will become familiar with the role of the paediatric first aider and be able to assess and react appropriately to an emergency situation. This is a 2 day course. On 12 March, the Childcare Minister Sam Gyimah announced proposals to make it a requirement that newly qualified early years staff (with a level 2 or level 3 childcare qualification) will have to have a paediatric first aid or emergency paediatric first aid certificate before they can be included in the required adult: child ratios in an early years setting. This proposal will be subject to consultation after the election, but it is expected that this change will take effect from September 2016. There will also be a new special award – to be known as ‘Millie’s Mark’ – to be displayed by nurseries who have achieved gold-standard paediatric first aid provision.
