First Aid at Work Course
The First Aid at Work (statutory) course complies with the current Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981. Successful students receive certificates to show that they are qualified to be First Aiders in the workplace for the next three years.
Who should attend?
A person who has been designated as a first aider at work. All employers in the UK have a legal obligation to make First Aid provision for their employees.

Course content
- Dealing with accidents and illness
- Using a First Aid kit
- Simple record keeping
- Resuscitation
- Treatment of an unconscious casualty
- Choking
- Treatment of a heart attack
- Control of bleeding
- Burns and scalds
- Poisoning
- Fractures
- Shock
The course also includes at no extra cost training in the use of an Automated External Dibrillator (AED).
Course Duration
3 days usually 9.00am – 5.00pm each day. May be split to run over a longer period

Assessment
Multiple-choice question paper and practical skills test
Certificate
An HSE-approved certificate valid for three years is issued on successful completion of written exam and practical evaluation. Renewal is by attending a two day Re-qualification course before the expiry date of the certificate.
Attendance on a three day First Aid At Work course will be necessary if validity has lapsed.
The HSE strongly recommend qualified FAW personnel attend annual half day refresher courses prior to them completing the required re-qualification course.
